Baby walker safety tips to help keep your child safe from injuries.


Sometimes you need a spot to place your baby when you can’t hold him or focus on him for a moment or two. These situations naturally arise during the course of every day, and it’s essential that you choose a safe place for your baby to play. There are some benefits to using a walker, but the detriments are safety-related and should be considered carefully.

Each day, approximately 21 children have hospitalized with baby walker-related injuries. Most injuries are caused by falls when the baby walker tips and the baby is thrown downstairs or crashes into furniture, heaters, or ovens. Baby walkers are dangerous because they give babies extra speed, extra height, and access to many hazards.
 You may feel that if your baby were occupied in her walker, she could be left unwatched for short periods. In reality, extra care is needed when your baby is in a walker. Even with supervision, accidents in baby walkers can easily occur. A baby in a baby walker can travel one meter per second, so an accident can happen before you are able to stop it.

         Keep the baby and its walker away from staircases and water bodies of any kind
         Never leave your baby on the walker unsupervised or without an adult watch.
         Remove sharp and pointed objects or surfaces from the vicinity. Heavy or breakable objects should be moved into another area.
         Remove all the clutter from tables, block your home staircases and stove knobs should be out of reach as well.
         Remove all the loose edges, carpets and rugs.
         Never carry a walker when the baby is in it.
         Before even using it, read and follow manufacturer's instructions keenly and carefully.
Baby walkers typically feature an assortment of engaging toys and gadgets for baby to use while he sits in it. Many babies enjoy these toys, so yours is likely to stay content and happy while sitting in a walker. Remember, if you choose to use a walker, it should only be used in an area that is not near stairs or other hazards and only for short periods of time.
